I Don’t Care About Money (Part 2)
I help writers achieve their dreams and share their knowledge by teaching them how to become expert authors through my workshops and classes. I have just added a comprehensive Mastermind to help writers with their books. By giving them the “how” they can make money by signing up clients to programs based on information contained in their books. My methods are so sound that if you have a quality non-fiction book and you follow my formula, you will get results.
Most writers struggle and are disappointed when they finally finish their book and there is no money at the end of the rainbow. I tell them their life-changing journey has just begun.
In my previous article, I gave you some reasons why money is important to writers. In this article, I give you more reasons and concrete ways you can adjust your thoughts and change your prosperity quotient.
- Money is an idea backed by confidence. How much confidence do you have in your book? How much are you willing to put yourself out there, back up your ideas and show your true face to the world? Is saying you don’t care about money really a copout?
- Getting out there with your book or having programs based on your book allows you to change other people’s lives.
- More exposure brings more relationships into your life, along with the satisfaction of becoming a mentor and sharing your knowledge.
- Many writers hide behind their computers. Money gives you access to more resources. You get to know more people and more places, giving you more ideas and points of view for your writing.
If you do have limiting beliefs about money, what can you do about it?
- Admit it, then see if you can trace it back to where you heard it. Dad? Mom? What did they say? How’s that working for them? Did their belief come from fear?
- Realize you’re going to have to learn the art of faith and trust–trusting yourself, your book, the power of positive thinking and the process of life itself.
- Determine if you are more afraid of success than failure.
- Write down the ways success would change your life.
- Realize that most people fear change–period. Any kind of change (even success).
- Accept that success can mean tough decisions and growing pains, but the rewards include knowing that you did everything you could to live up to your potential.

I Don’t Care About Money (Part 1)
I hold workshops and seminars on becoming an expert author, as well as Masterminds teaching authors like you how to parlay non-fiction books into profitable programs so you can share your expertise with the world. Realistically, most authors will not get rich from selling their books alone–many end up receiving as little as $2 per book, or make $100 for the entire life of one book.
At times, I’ve gotten someone in my class who looks down their nose and says, "I don’t care about money."
If you don’t care about money, it won’t care about you.
Money is merely a by-product of giving value to your audience. No value, no money. If you give value, you won’t be able to avoid making money. Have you noticed that many of the wealthiest people in the world have given the most value to society from what they do? From Oprah (who has helped millions transform their lives) to Bill Gates (transforming the way we process information), to Warren Buffet (who has created thousands of millionaires by helping them invest their money) this holds true, as long as you ASK for the money. It is a universal law that if you give value you will have money, so if I hear anyone say they don’t care about money they are also saying, "I don’t care about giving value to my readers."
In addition, if you care about your ideas enough to want to share them with the world, you’re going to want to care about money or you won’t be able to fulfill your mission.
Here are some other compelling reasons why it’s not just okay to care about money if you are a writer, but vitally important:
- You need to publicize your book. Publicity, from websites with functioning search engine capabilities to draw people to your site, to other effective advertising, costs money. Even "free" publicity such as speaking engagements, social media marketing, writing ezine articles, gathering testimonials and making connections for affiliate partners takes time. Time is money. If you’re just scraping by or working two jobs to pay for your writing habit, you’re not going to have the time to get your book into your ideal reader’s hands.
- Money means freedom–freedom to publicize your book and time to write.
- Money is simply a measuring gauge of how you’re doing (with a lot of societal, religious and emotional baggage attached to it). As you make more money, it can become a pretty fun yardstick.
In my next article, I’ll give you more reasons you should care about money and some solutions to lubricate a stuck money mindset.

Enlightening Words From a Very Successful Man
I know I tend to need a little motivation every once in a while. How about you?
Writing a book doesn’t always seem easy. What is easy is letting yourself get stuck in the worries and fears of not being able to do it. Thoughts like those hit all of us every once in a while.
That’s why I wanted to share with you a very inspirational video I recently came across. In this video of clips, Will Smith talks about his perspective on achieving an outstanding work ethic. This is a man who has accomplished a tremendous amount in life, and I am hoping his story will motivate you as much as it motivated me.
Take those wise words with you as you go through the journey of writing your book. As the video says, greatness exists in all of us.

101 Reasons Why You Must Write A Book: How To Make A Six Figure Income By Writing & Publishing Your Own Book
Writing the “Perfect” Book
I teach hundreds of students every year how to write and publish their own books. In my classes, they are given all of the tools necessary to become published authors and to start making money with their books.
My students are motivated individuals who truly want to get their books written and out into the world. And so I began to wonder … If I am teaching hundreds of students every year, why haven’t those hundreds of students all become published authors by now? They all have stories to tell and they have all learned how to turn those stories into books. So what is holding them back?
This reminds me of a student from a few years ago. She had been working on the same book since 1967. 1967! That is quite a long time to be writing one manuscript! I had to ask her why it was taking so long. Why did she not just finish the book, get it published, and get it into the hands of readers?
She simply replied to me that her book was not yet perfect. She was in a writing club where everyone would critique their fellow members’ books. She told me that she was constantly coming across changes that needed to be made and revisions that would make her book better. Her aspirations for writing the perfect book stalled her efforts and placed her onto the path of possibly never reaching publication.
The secret I have learned is simple: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PERFECT BOOK.
Don’t fall into the same trap as the student I just described. No book will ever reach unattainable standards of perfection. Take a look at any book on Amazon.com. Chances are, no matter what book you have searched for, it will have a good number of positive reviews and its share of negative reviews. It is impossible to please every reader in the world with your own manuscript. Trying to do so will cause unnecessary delays in your writing process.
One lesson I want to teach my students—and all of your reading this blog post—is that a published book is always better than a book that is never published. Once your book has been finished and is out there in the world, it can start working for you and making you money. Even a mediocre book that is published will provide better results than a terrific book that never had a chance. If you are waiting to reach an impossible perfection, you are missing out on all of the great things your book can help you accomplish.
So get started writing your book now! With the help of our DVD set, “Write & Publish Your Own Book In 40 Days,” you can be well on your way to finishing that book you’ve been wanting to write. Imagine becoming a published author by the end of the year! Now that is a goal worth striving for!
4 Reasons Why You Must Write a Book
1. Stand Out In A Crowded or Competitive Market Place
In any tough economic or competitive climate it can be very hard to stand out in a crowded market place. Many of the advertising methods that worked not even that long ago are now bringing little or no results. Many service professionals, coaches, sales people, consultants, entrepreneurs, authors and speakers are in the dubious spot of being the seller in a buyers market and often end up taking on work they either don’t want or is not that profitable. It can be a vicious cycle of feast or famine depending on market conditions.
2. Becoming an Author Gets More and Better Paying Clients
Can you imagine what it would be like to have your clients chasing you down for your expertise and not because you are the cheapest? How nice would that be? More and better paying clients are the dream of most service professionals, coaches, entrepreneurs etc.
3. Published Authors Have a Higher Regard in their Markets
My coauthor, Jeff, and I have had our worlds changed by writing and publishing our own book. It is the quickest way on earth to gain instant credibility, celebrity and expert status. People hold you in higher esteem as an author giving you a substantial marketing edge against any competition you may have.
4. Brings the World to Your Doorstep
Once you are the author of a book there are all sorts of ways to get yourself in front of your target market and start attracting your perfect customers all on auto pilot. As an author with a book and website you now have the world at your doorstep ready to do business with you.
Frankly I don’t understand why more people don’t take advantage of this fabulous opportunity. Need Encouragement and Guidance
Want To be A Successful Speaker? Write a Book.
Being a speaker is a great career that many of us would love to do. Problem is though that most speakers, like authors, never make enough money to support themselves doing what they love without another career to help them make it financially.
Just this past summer I was in Portland Oregon to see an Aunt, Uncle and Cousin I hadn’t seen in 38 years. For my wife and children it was their first introduction to these relatives.
Most Speakers are Broke
My aunt and uncle were both 85 and doing great and didn’t even look close to their age. The point here is my Uncle is a very renowned artist in his city and has many great accomplishments under his belt as an artist but like most speakers and authors he was not able to support himself or his family from just his art alone.
My Uncle actually taught art for about 25 years at the local university to support himself and made a little extra with his art. So many people look to speakers, artist and authors with envy and a perceived lifestyle they think they might like but have no idea that most don’t make enough to support themselves.
A Simple Solution to Attract Speaking Engagements
This is a tragedy, but it doesn’t have to be that way. There is a simple solution that Speakers can take advantage of and that is to write a book. Not only will it help them get and attract more speaking engagements but it will also be the first piece in their financial puzzle to making a living as a speaker.
Your Audience Will Buy Your Book
When you have a book and are a speaker it is very easy to sell your book to the people who are sitting in your audience. In many cases you will have people wanting to buy your book and have you sign it before you even start speaking.
Your book is your first date to many other products you can sell your listening audience and this is where the magic begins. If you are a speaker today there are two things in my eyes that are not options if you want to be one of the speakers in the minority that has a financially prosperous career.
Those two things are:
1. Write and publish a book
2. Set up a website.
Remember it is the author who is considered the expert. So take advantage of being an author and catapult your speaking career.
Do you believe it is hard to write a book and think you need help>>>

Do You Find Writing Your Book To Be Overwhelming?
Overwhelm can be paralyzing especially if you are writing a book. But you don’t have to let it stop you. I want to talk to you about a straight line to success that for many of us is achieved through a good mentor or mastermind group.
I still sometimes even to this day find myself in overwhelm mode when I think of all that must be done to keep my publishing and information marketing business moving forward. The feeling of overwhelm doesn’t last very long anymore because I realize that by just focusing on the task at hand along with a little faith will always get me to where I want to go.
As an author you don’t have to know about all the different steps to get your book written, published and marketed, you only have to get started. The universe always has a way of bringing to you what you will need next if you will only get started in the direction toward your goals.
You can’t see the next valley until you have climbed to the top of the first mountain. Once you conquer that first mountain rest assured the view will probably be greater than even imagined but you have to take that first step.
Even today I don’t worry too much about all the things I must learn and prepare for but I do know that I will have the right information and resources come to me when I get to the next step. Although I can most of the times get myself moving consistently along the track I still depend on both a good mentor as well as a mastermind group I meet with weekly.
My mentor and mastermind group have an uncanny way of being able to stand back from my situation and see it for what it really is, and more importantly keep me moving forward. I couldn’t or wouldn’t do it without them and I think many a successful entrepreneur or author would say the same thing.
Don’t let overwhelm defeat you but instead use it as your special sign to get a good mentor or become part of a mastermind group.
Writing A Book Takes Action
I want to talk about how you must not confuse motion with action because one will keep you broke and the other will make you rich.
One of the biggest challenges I have is to keep my clients or students moving in the directions of their dreams. It is always nice when they email me or phone me to let me know they have finished their books and are very excited about the future.
It is a great feeling to know that I have helped in some way. But not all that start their books finish their books and I am constantly trying to increase the percentage of successful authors that take my courses.
One of the things I tell all my students is to check to make sure what they’re doing is not just motion but is actually action.
Motion is usually anything that you do from day to day. For example: If you make coffee every morning before you start to write that is motion. The motion of making coffee. If you turn on your computer and check you email that is usually a motion as well. Organizing your desk and on and on it goes until at the end of the day you have still not taken any action because you are too busy being in motion.
So what is action?
Action is a task that you do each day that moves you closer to your goal. In this case we are talking about writing, publishing and marketing your book.
So action would be finding a company to print your book. Then maybe after that it would be to contact a webmaster to make your website. Do you see the difference? Action puts another brick into your overall book business and gets you closer to your goal each day.
Motion is doing things that you do day after day that don’t bring you any closer to your goal. If you don’t take action you will never reach your goal as a successful published author. If you do the same things everyday and expect different results is that not the definition of insanity?
Take action and put at least one more new brick into your business each day and you will be amazed at how fast your life will change.
Write A Book! Leave Behind A Life Of Mediocrity
So many people lead lives of quiet desperation needlessly. If they only knew how very close they are to a miraculous life they would probably take more inspired action.
I remember many years ago when a business associate commented to me after I was telling him the great business idea I had discovered. His response to me was “I have been telling you that for a long time”. I don’t know why but a switch went on in my brain that particular day saying he had in fact been telling me about that very business idea for many years.
Why had I heard him that day but had obviously not heard him the many times before? It is because we can only see what we know and I finally knew what he had been talking to me about for all those years.
You see the universe or higher power which ever you prefer to call it is always supporting us for our higher purpose if we would just be open to it. The universe sends us messages many ways. It may be a friend, business associate, event, book or an article just like this one. We’re getting our lives queued constantly if we would just open up to the new and let go of the old.
I teach a course, How To Write & Publish a Book In 40 Days, many times per year in the Vancouver BC area. It is obvious to me that everyone in the classes I am teaching has been given a nudge by the universe to write a book or else they wouldn’t be there.
That being said why do many of the students get all pumped up at the class but then run out of gas on their book project a short time later? It is because they can’t see themselves as published authors yet. This is a tragedy because finishing their books would make a miraculous difference in their lives.
I truly believe we are put here on this earth to help each other and writing your book is a great way to help many people and in fact in most cases it is our obligation to do so.
I know my life purpose is to help as many people as possible to expand their lives through the process of writing their book. Many of my students do finish their books within a few months of the course and I am grateful for that.
Others it may be years later when someone says to them after they are beaming at the miraculous life changes that have come to them after writing their books. I said to you years ago that you should write a book.
Hear me now this very day that you can write and publish your own book and you will leave your life of mediocrity for a life of change and miracles. Can you hear me?
Writing A Book Is A Great Retirement Plan
One of the best things I like about coaching my students is how pumped up I get teaching the exciting opportunities we can all have by writing and publishing our own books.
Why do I get so pumped? Because every time I teach a call like the one we had this past Tuesday on continuity programs I get more excited hearing myself talk about all the great opportunities we all have with our books.
Now I know many of you reading this article are no where near ready to retire yet and in fact one of the reasons I wrote my book with my coauthor Jeff McCallum is the fact that I never want to retire. So why the retirement talk?
Because in my last coaching call I gave many examples of how you can monetize your books information into having your customers paying you a monthly fee without having to do monthly work. So if you are getting money monthly for work you have done in the past isn’t that just like having a retirement income? You bet it is.
One student saw how easy it would be to get 100 people from her list to pay a monthly fee of $47.00 per month by setting up three, one hour support group tele calls for the information she has written about in her soon to be released book. Do the math! That’s $4,700.00 per month for three hours work.
What if she decides to set up four groups like this and maybe one is a little more expensive at $97.00 per month? Three groups bringing in $4,700.00 per month and the last one bringing in $9,700.00 per month makes a total of $23,800.00 per month and she would still only be working by telephone a total of 4 hours per week.
We talked about many of the possible ways of having your customers opt in to a monthly continuity plan all relating to the information in your book including:
Newsletters
Membership sites
Coaching programs
Consulting
Certifications sites
Interview website
Actually when we started brainstorming the issue they realized it was endless and could be done with pretty well any niche or topic.
Does it take a little bit of set up work? Yes but with the right help even that is not a big issue. There is no better return on investment in anything else on this planet as writing & publishing your own book and that continues to make me jump out of bed each and every morning.
