I Don’t Care About Money (Part 2)

Most writers struggle and are disappointed when they finally finish their book and there is no money at the end of the rainbow. I tell them their life-changing journey has just begun.
In my previous article, I gave you some reasons why money is important to writers. In this article, I give you more reasons and concrete ways you can adjust your thoughts and change your prosperity quotient.
- Money is an idea backed by confidence. How much confidence do you have in your book? How much are you willing to put yourself out there, back up your ideas and show your true face to the world? Is saying you don’t care about money really a copout?
- Getting out there with your book or having programs based on your book allows you to change other people’s lives.
- More exposure brings more relationships into your life, along with the satisfaction of becoming a mentor and sharing your knowledge.
- Many writers hide behind their computers. Money gives you access to more resources. You get to know more people and more places, giving you more ideas and points of view for your writing.
If you do have limiting beliefs about money, what can you do about it?
- Admit it, then see if you can trace it back to where you heard it. Dad? Mom? What did they say? How’s that working for them? Did their belief come from fear?
- Realize you’re going to have to learn the art of faith and trust–trusting yourself, your book, the power of positive thinking and the process of life itself.
- Determine if you are more afraid of success than failure.
- Write down the ways success would change your life.
- Realize that most people fear change–period. Any kind of change (even success).
- Accept that success can mean tough decisions and growing pains, but the rewards include knowing that you did everything you could to live up to your potential.

I Don’t Care About Money (Part 1)
I hold workshops and seminars on becoming an expert author, as well as Masterminds teaching authors like you how to parlay non-fiction books into profitable programs so you can share your expertise with the world. Realistically, most authors will not get rich from selling their books alone–many end up receiving as little as $2 per book, or make $100 for the entire life of one book.
At times, I’ve gotten someone in my class who looks down their nose and says, "I don’t care about money."
If you don’t care about money, it won’t care about you.
Money is merely a by-product of giving value to your audience. No value, no money. If you give value, you won’t be able to avoid making money. Have you noticed that many of the wealthiest people in the world have given the most value to society from what they do? From Oprah (who has helped millions transform their lives) to Bill Gates (transforming the way we process information), to Warren Buffet (who has created thousands of millionaires by helping them invest their money) this holds true, as long as you ASK for the money. It is a universal law that if you give value you will have money, so if I hear anyone say they don’t care about money they are also saying, "I don’t care about giving value to my readers."
In addition, if you care about your ideas enough to want to share them with the world, you’re going to want to care about money or you won’t be able to fulfill your mission.
Here are some other compelling reasons why it’s not just okay to care about money if you are a writer, but vitally important:
- You need to publicize your book. Publicity, from websites with functioning search engine capabilities to draw people to your site, to other effective advertising, costs money. Even "free" publicity such as speaking engagements, social media marketing, writing ezine articles, gathering testimonials and making connections for affiliate partners takes time. Time is money. If you’re just scraping by or working two jobs to pay for your writing habit, you’re not going to have the time to get your book into your ideal reader’s hands.
- Money means freedom–freedom to publicize your book and time to write.
- Money is simply a measuring gauge of how you’re doing (with a lot of societal, religious and emotional baggage attached to it). As you make more money, it can become a pretty fun yardstick.

Are You Frustrated by Not Having a Job or Not Making Enough Money?
The current job market is rough. A report issued on April 2, 2010, confirms that the unemployment rate in the United States alone is holding steady at nearly 10%.
These figures are disheartening and even a little scary. You may want to make more money with a new job, but feel that there is no way to get one today’s economy. You are already on your way to landing the job and making more money!
• The Interview
Imagine being asked by your future employer, “Why should I hire you for this job?” At that point, you throw a copy of your book on the table and confidently answer, “Because I wrote the book on it!” Being a published author gives you a powerful advantage to landing a better-paying job. Discussing the research you performed and the experience you had while writing your book will instantly position you as an expert in your field. And imagine how much of a leg up you will have on your competition if you could say that you were a Best-selling Author as well, like Nina Telpoukhovskaia!
• Social Networking
Now more than ever, you can use social networking sites to your advantage. On Facebook.com, you can set up a “Fan Page” for your book or even for yourself as an author, and you will have one more way to set yourself apart from those people who want the same paycheck you do! Point to your Facebook page with a link in your email signature and your future employers can “discover” you for themselves. Get a lot of fans on the page and you will also build prestige for yourself.
Linkedin.com is great tool for employers to learn more about you and what others in the same occupational field think about you. One of the most impressive things you can post is that you have written and published a book. Just like with your resume, employers will take notice! When it comes time to hiring for that high-paying job, being a published author will set you apart from everyone else and will help you to land that job and that paycheck!

Our Authors Prove that Writing a Book Really WILL Generate Income!
There has been a lot of excitement at Expert Author Publishing lately. I held a successful All-day Workshop on March 6, which I am excited to tell you all about in this blog post. I also received terrific news from one of our authors, which I will also fill you in on.

A great group of soon-to-be published authors attended and they were excited and ready to learn the tools they need to get their books published and into the hands of readers. A huge draw of this particular workshop was our special guest speaker, Nina Telpoukhovskaia.
You might recall from an earlier blog post that Nina is one of our Amazon Best-selling Authors. She is a true inspiration and role model for our aspiring authors, and it was a pleasure to have her speak to us about her accomplishments. Nina started her talk by explaining how she went about setting up an Amazon Best Seller Campaign. This information was very valuable for the workshop attendees, coming from a woman whose book hit #1 in the “Sales and Selling” category on Amazon’s Canada site!
Nina has also experienced success beyond selling copies of her book. One thing I always stress at my workshops is that becoming a published author can open doors in your life and career that you never imagined. Nina is a perfect example of this! She spoke to the workshop attendees about using her published (and best-selling) author status to receive spectacular job offers. Since publishing her book, Nina has positioned herself as a true expert in her field. Thanks to being set apart from others who do the same work she does, she was offered a very coveted marketing job with the 2010 Winter Olympics! Talk about prestige building upon prestige. Before I wrap up my discussion of how the workshop went, I did want to tell you another success story from one of our authors. Want To Make Some Extra Money As The Author Of A Book?
Have you ever wanted to work less hours or maybe even part time but just couldn’t make it financially on part time wages? Well I’ve got a secret how anyone who has authored a book can make full time wages for part time work.
The secret is Continuing Education which is available at many post secondary schools and colleges in most cities and towns throughout North America or for that matter in most cities world wide.
Take the information from your book and make it into a 3 hour course and teach it at the local continuing education schools in your city. The continuing education schools are always looking for new instructors and courses and your book and course could be just what they are looking for.
Many of the schools will pay you 40 or 50 % subcontracting wages and this can work out very financially rewarding for 3 hours work. I have had as many as 35 students per class at $59.00 per student which works out to $1,032.50 for 3 hours work.
But wait it gets even better. You can potentially sell as many as 20 books to your class adding another few hundred dollars. Some may ask for further consulting or coaching. Are you getting the idea yet how profitable a 3 hour class can be for you?
Between all the different backend services and products available to your students you could very well have a $1,000.00 to even a $10,000.00 night. Not bad for a part time job.

Book Writing Secrets for High Profits as an Author
I want to tell you one secret about why most authors are broke and then another secret on how you as an author can be rich
Secret # 1 Poor authors think you make money from Royalties by selling your books in book stores.
Well the sad truth on this one is that you have to sell a lot of books to make any money with a $1.00 or $2.00 royalty per book. Poor authors also don’t realize that book stores are a lousy place to sell books.
Secret # 2 Rich authors know how to use their book as a customer generating magnet so they can sell their other products that can have profit margins of 60, 80 or even higher percentages. Rich authors know the profit from one coaching client can be higher than selling 5000 books in some cases.
I am amazed more and more each week how profitable writing, publishing and selling your information can be. Of course not all topics are created equal but if you pick a topic that can truly help your customer you will most certainly do extremely well.
Wasn’t it Zig Ziglar who said if you help enough people get what they want you will get what you want?
I recently taught a class of eager students wanting to write their books. One girl worked as a cocktail waitress and was able to on average make over $500.00 per night in tips.
Most of her coworkers usually made about $100.00 per night in tips. Of course she quickly saw the value in writing a book that showed waiters and waitresses how to increase their income by as much as 5 times.
During the class she attended she realized that by writing a book and positioning herself as the expert her information would be of great value to not only the waiters and waitresses but also the business owners that employed them.
Think about it! You can only get more tips by giving better service and I think every business owner that employs waiters and waitresses would want better service for their customers.
So how is my student going to make a ton of money? In addition to selling her books to attract more customers she can sell high profit information products such as DVD’s, home study programs, coaching, workshops or seminars showing waiters, waitresses and business owners how to dramatically increase their net profits.
I know being both a business owner and author I am always on the look out for ways to increase my profits.
In most cases your information products can bring in 60 to 80 % or even higher profits. There are not too many businesses that make that kind of profit especially when you consider the low cost to get into the information marketing business.
Do You Find Writing Your Book To Be Overwhelming?
Overwhelm can be paralyzing especially if you are writing a book. But you don’t have to let it stop you. I want to talk to you about a straight line to success that for many of us is achieved through a good mentor or mastermind group.
I still sometimes even to this day find myself in overwhelm mode when I think of all that must be done to keep my publishing and information marketing business moving forward. The feeling of overwhelm doesn’t last very long anymore because I realize that by just focusing on the task at hand along with a little faith will always get me to where I want to go.
As an author you don’t have to know about all the different steps to get your book written, published and marketed, you only have to get started. The universe always has a way of bringing to you what you will need next if you will only get started in the direction toward your goals.
You can’t see the next valley until you have climbed to the top of the first mountain. Once you conquer that first mountain rest assured the view will probably be greater than even imagined but you have to take that first step.
Even today I don’t worry too much about all the things I must learn and prepare for but I do know that I will have the right information and resources come to me when I get to the next step. Although I can most of the times get myself moving consistently along the track I still depend on both a good mentor as well as a mastermind group I meet with weekly.
My mentor and mastermind group have an uncanny way of being able to stand back from my situation and see it for what it really is, and more importantly keep me moving forward. I couldn’t or wouldn’t do it without them and I think many a successful entrepreneur or author would say the same thing.
Don’t let overwhelm defeat you but instead use it as your special sign to get a good mentor or become part of a mastermind group.
